Pozos (1996)

Located approximately twenty-five miles north of San Miguel de Allende in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains, Pozos has now been declared an Historical National Monument, thus protecting its unique colonial architecture and ancient mining buildings. The landscape around Pozos, with its air of history and its rolling hills, has been described as "a Mexican Tuscany." Huge, old mesquite trees and bright wildflowers grow amidst the crumbling ruins. As the light changes throughout the day, new picture possibilities develop virtually every minute.

This workshop is designed to introduce participants to Pozos and its environs, while they learn the fundamentals of black and white photography. The group will spend four days exploring the picturesque landscape, abandoned haciendas, and deserted mines of the area. In the evenings there will be class and darkroom sessions. Students may work is any format from 35mm to view camera, and cameras of all formats will be available for student use, including 4x5 view cameras.
