BUFFALO BAYOU INTRODUCTION

For five years Winningham explored the landscape along the roughly hundred- mile course of Buffalo Bayou and the Houston Ship Channel, photographing in black and white, largely with the 4x5 view camera. He also traveled and photographed from canoe and helicopter, finally putting together a sequence of eighty-eight photographs. In the book Along Forgotten River, Winningham interwove with the pictures historical accounts of the earliest travelers to Texas. Photographs from the project are available in both conventional silver gelatin prints and in digital photogravures, made by Winnngham himself.
