Hoop Dances

Houston Rockets photographs from 1996

In 1996 the Houston Rockets basketball team invited Winningham to make a series of photographs of professional basketball, encouraging him to make photographs that were somehow new and unique.  The result was a series of pictures taken with long exposures (half a second to ten seconds in duration), often taking advantage of the electronic flashes in the roof of the arena to combine sharp imagery with the blurs of long exposures.  Collected as a portfolio (in an edition of 5) titled Hoop Dances, these photographs are no longer available, except on the secondary market.
